Whether we run a small business or not, we’re all the proprietor of our own company: the company of ourself. We’re the boss; we make the calls; we run the show. Whatever happens to our company, ultimately, we’re the one who’s responsible for getting us there.
We should all take a step back and look at our company. How do the fiscal reports look? What’s the state of management? Do we have enough inventory to keep our business running? How’s our market share?
Regardless of whether we’re talking about a legitimate small business or our own lives, if we’re sitting around waiting for things to happen to us, we’re on a path to ruin. Unless we’re actively working to make things better, then we’re doing nothing but sitting still, or worse, falling behind.
Staying on top of our money situation; making wise decisions; adding value by increasing knowledge; growing our footprint; all these things help make our company better. By taking ownership of our situation, we can sail the ship that is our company on the course that we desire, instead of waiting to see which way the wind blows.
