Some people are blessed with a quick wit: the ability to come up with the right thing to say at exactly the precise moment when it’s impact is the most advantageous.
Most of us, though, don’t share that same blessing. We can come up with the right phrase, the funny joke, the appropriate comment, but all too often we’re a beat too late.
We find it hard to work under pressure.
Being quick-witted is great. But having the courage to put important things out into the world, no matter our comedic timing, is priceless.
We shouldn’t worry so much about how punctual we are; consistently showing up (even if we’re late to the party) is just as important (and likely to prove more valuable in the long run).
Looking back on it, most people aren’t going to remember when we got the the party, as long as they know we were there.
