Looking back is always an adventure.
All too often, it’s an exercise that’s fraught with anxiety as we ruminate on the things we’ve done and foolishly stress out thinking about the things that we could’ve done better.
Thinking about past mistakes and figuring out a better way forward can be a very rewarding mental exercise. Dwelling on those mistakes at the expense of the present often proves ruinous, destroying our ability to live an enjoyable life.
As we move into this new year and think back over the past one, let’s make sure that we keep things in proper perspective, taking in all the lessons we can while realizing that we can’t change the past but we can utilize it to help change us going forward.
Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.
