Can you remember back when you were just starting? Think about all the things you didn’t know about your job.
We’ve learned so much since then, by just being aware of what it is we’re doing.
It’s tempting to forget that we had to learn all that stuff the hard way, and simply believe that we’ve always known everything about our job. Doing so makes it easier for us to explain away the fact that there’s a lot more that we don’t know.
If we believe that we’ve always had all this knowledge, then we can justify our belief that we can’t possibly learn anything new.
Complacent confidence, we’ll call it.
Other people (the ones who are passing us by) would simply call it laziness.
How confident are we?
