It’s unfortunate, but when you’re a small business owner there’s a target on your back.
There are some people out there who see us as an easy meal ticket; basically a way to get free money.
They know that they can accuse us of doing something, or not doing something, and sit back and wait.
They are well aware that for us, quite often the easiest way out of an uncomfortable situation is to simply write a check and move on with our lives.
It’s not right. It’s not ethical. It’s not fair.
But it’s the way things are.
We should be able to focus all our energy on doing a good job for our clients, but the sad reality is that we’ve got to focus at least some of our energy on risk mitigation.
Knowing that these potential pitfalls are out there, and realizing that it’s incumbent on us to protect ourselves, is a really good place to start.
